Why car brands are going live

Buying a car used to start with a showroom visit. Today it often starts on a phone. A live stream brings the showroom to people who aren't ready to walk in yet: a host shows the real car, answers questions as they come in, and invites viewers to book a test drive.

It works for two groups at once. For the distributor and dealers, it puts their outlet and their stock in front of local buyers every week. For the brand, it builds an audience of interested viewers and, most importantly, test-drive sign-ups.

How a showroom live stream works

  • Two hours, on a regular schedule. Each session runs for two hours, usually in the evening, once a week. The same slot every week builds a habit for returning viewers.
  • Live from the showroom floor. A SushiVid host and the outlet's own sales officer present the real cars, with a SushiVid crew on site to run the stream.
  • Rotating outlets. One client rotates the live stream across around nine dealer outlets, so each dealer gets its turn in front of local buyers.
  • TikTok first, Facebook alongside. Sessions go out on TikTok, and some run on Facebook at the same time to reach an older audience.
  • A reason to book now. Some sessions offer a free gift with every test drive booked, and the host shows the gifts live on camera.
  • A clear next step. Viewers are pointed to a test-drive form, so interest turns into leads the dealer can follow up.

How we run it: two cameras and a sales officer

A car is a big product, and one camera can't do it justice. We use two camera angles. One camera follows the host around the car to show the details up close: the interior, the features, the finish. The other is fixed on the outlet entrance or the biggest brand poster, where we talk about the brand itself: its reputation and its history.

Our host doesn't need to be the car expert. The real expertise is the sales officer on site, who knows every model and every question buyers ask. The host's job is to prompt them with the right questions at the right moments, keeping the live stream lively while the sales officer gives viewers accurate, trustworthy answers.

That makes chemistry between the host and the sales officer essential. When the two of them are comfortable together, the live feels like a real conversation rather than a sales pitch, and viewers stay longer.

We also arrive well before every live to set up. Small things can eat up time: a Facebook account that won't sign in, traffic on the way to the outlet, or a slow internet connection at the showroom. Building in that buffer means the stream starts on time, every time.

Why ad boosting makes or breaks it

For car live streams, boosting is not optional. A viewer three states away can't come in for a test drive, so we boost each session to people within about 10 km of the outlet that's live. That keeps the audience local, which is what turns views into test drives.

The settings have to be exactly right. We've seen a boost go live with the budget spent and no traffic arriving at all, all because of one small checkbox left unticked. So we double-check every boost setting before each live, not after.

Boosting also kick-starts a new account. For one brand, paid boosting brought in 80% of views in the first session. By the fifth session, 76% of views were organic: the account had built a local audience that came back on its own.

Results from three car brands

A French car brand: from 4 leads to 58 in five sessions

Weekly two-hour TikTok live streams from a dealer showroom generated 92 leads, 24,508 views, 107,822 engagements and 203 new followers across the first five sessions (August–September 2026).

A Japanese car brand: 566,000+ views in four sessions

Two-hour sessions from two dealer showrooms ran on TikTok and Facebook at the same time. In the first four sessions (September–October 2026) they reached 566,613 views and 160,963 engagements, and the first session alone produced 12 leads.

The audience matched car buyers: about 70% of TikTok viewers and 77–85% of Facebook viewers were male, and Facebook's biggest age groups were 35 to 64. Facebook brought the reach (91% of views); TikTok brought the interaction (93% of engagement).

A Chinese car brand: a live stream that moves around its dealer network

Since April 2026, we've run regular two-hour sessions for this brand, rotating across around nine dealer outlets in the Klang Valley so every dealer gets airtime with local buyers. After the first series of 12 sessions, the client renewed for a second series, which is still running.

What our clients tell us

We're generating around 15 leads for them every live.

That's what one client told us, and it's a milestone we're proud of. Just as telling: all three car clients are continuing their live streams with us.

Frequently asked questions

Does TikTok Live work for car brands in Malaysia?

How do car live streams generate leads?

A host and the outlet's sales officer present the real car live from the showroom, and viewers are pointed to a test-drive form. Each session is boosted to people within about 10 km of the outlet, so the viewers are local enough to come in.

How long and how often should a car showroom live stream run?

Our car clients run two-hour sessions, usually in the evening, once a week. A fixed weekly slot helps returning viewers build a habit.
