Ahead of #MYCYBERSALE — Malaysia's answer to Black Friday — the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) embraced new advertising techniques with the help of SushiVid, subsidising YouTube influencer marketing videos for 18 of the SMEs it represents, in order to drive more traffic to their websites during the sale.
Valued at RM2,500 each, every video was created by a SushiVid influencer, giving brands the opportunity to conduct A/B testing on their campaigns.
“At RM5,000, with a 50% subsidy from MDEC, the winning merchants can expect a video with an average of 15,000 views, at the very least,” said Yuh Wen Foong, CEO of SushiVid. “While we can't make guarantees, as this depends on the influencer and product interest, we think this is a highly conservative estimate.”
“Every e-commerce client I know spends a lot of money generating leads from remarketing, referral fees, affiliate marketing, and first-time user coupons. SushiVid provides a less in-your-face way to market your brand, and builds trust through endorsements by influencers — however big or small — while giving you shareable, SEO-friendly content,” she added.
MDEC hoped that releasing 18 videos, rather than one high-budget video, would boost sharing and SEO reach, increasing the likelihood of a viral campaign benefiting its merchants.
